TEXAS 1SINGLE MALT WHISKY
When we created Texas 1, we didn't set out to start a movement. We just wanted to pioneer a new way to distill the spirit we loved. We started with a traditional single malt approach to process and ingredients but with a more virgin oak profile to bring something new to what has become known as American Single Malts. And along the way, we found our purpose – to be a leader in this burgeoning category.

Why is single malt generally more expensive than regular whisky?
The process, maturation, and ingredients all add to the price. Single malt requires more highly specialized equipment such as a mash lauter tun and roller mill. It tends to spend more time maturing in higher quality barrels so it takes up more storage space in a warehouse, and lastly barley costs a lot more than other cereal grains used to make whisky. On average, barley in the US yields 110 bushels per acre, whereas corn yields 172 bushels an acre; and barley bushels weigh less! Finally, for single malts, barley requires the added step of malting, which adds costs but also incredible flavor and complexity.
