Five Whiskies from Balcones Earn Medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Waco, TX, April 24, 2018 – Balcones '1' Texas Single Malt, the distillery's flagship whisky, has been named Best Craft Distiller Whisky at the 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Additionally, the distillery won five medals for their whiskies. On top of its category win, '1' Texas Single Malt earned Double Gold. Texas Blue Corn Bourbon and the new Texas Rye Cask Strength both took Gold Medals. True Blue 100 received a Silver Medal, and Balcones Texas Rye 100 brought a Bronze Medal.

Balcones Head Distiller Jared Himstedt said about the results, “When we started Balcones ten years ago, we sought only to make the best whisky we could with the tools we had at our disposal. Even though single malt whisky was the catalyst for our endeavors, we never expected that we would earn recognition on the level that the San Francisco World Spirits Competition has given us.”

Fred Minnick, award-winning author and Captain of the competition commented, “As a judge for the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, I've enjoyed watching the craft category blossom. Balcones came from my blind panel, and we thought it stood above the competition. When I later learned it was Balcones, I was not surprised. They're making great whisky in Waco.”

'1' Texas Single Malt is distributed by Southern Glazer's in major markets across the country including Texas, New York, California, Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois, Florida, Oklahoma, Maryland, Kentucky, Washington D.C., and Michigan.
