The Distillery Earns Five New Medals for their Texas Whiskies

Waco, TX – Celebration is in order for the distillers and crew at Balcones Distilling, who have just earned five new medals for their blue corn and single malt whiskies in a blind tasting with some of the UK's foremost experts. The dominating whisky was Texas Blue Corn Bourbon, taking the top honor of Master in the Super Premium Bourbon category, while Baby Blue, True Blue 100, and '1' Texas Single Malt all received Gold medals. Balcones limited-edition, distillery-only release, Texas Single Malt Rum Cask Finished, also received a Silver medal.

Jared Himstedt, Balcones' Head Distiller and Whisky Blender, said about the new accolades, “We're very proud to have performed well at The American Whisky Masters historically, but the recognition that we receive for our whiskies each new year is always valuable and rewarding. With the category growing at an exponential rate, we're excited and deeply grateful to be in the company of so many excellent American distillers.”

Amy Hopkins, Editor at The Spirits Business, said, “Balcones once again proved to be one of the top producers of quality American whiskey during our American Whiskey Masters blind tasting competition. In particular, judges unanimously loved Master medalist Balcones Blue Corn Bourbon, which drew praise for its unctuous and full-bodied character. Here at The Spirits Business, we can't wait to see what this pioneering Texan distillery has to offer in the future.”

Balcones' distillers intend to release the 2017 batch of their acclaimed Texas Blue Corn Bourbon this fall in Texas and other select markets. The whisky, bottled at cask strength, is big and bold, and sure to excite fans of bourbons and Texas whiskies. Baby Blue and '1' Texas Single Malt, the distillery's two flagship whiskies, are available year-round in all markets that Balcones distributes to. True Blue 100 is an annual offering released in springtime.

The Texan distiller recently opened its new facility in downtown Waco, complete with gift shop and tasting room. Tours are available Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, by appointment. Visit www.balconesdistilling.com for more information.
